Operation Geburstag

Geburstag (birthday) Ethan's 9th birthday is right around the corner! I can't believe that Sunday we will celebrate 9 years with our little man! This year birthdays are slightly different lacking in family, friends, and a school to celebrate with! A typical birthday in Michigan was quite the event with parties and tons of love from everyone! So, the question Scott and I have been toying with is  "How Do We Match Past Years?" Thus has begun Operation Geburstag!
First what does he want for his birthday...Lego's (what's new) and than Harry Potter books 4 and 5 USA print! So with some quick work we were able to order the books and have them sent to the USA and have a co-worker bring them over to Germany! I learned how to navigate Amazon.de and purchased various other gifts!
Now what was left was the hardest part...the magic! What could we pull off to make him feel amazing! We have been to the zoo, to the castles, to the galleries, and to the pool! We have no one to watch the dog, so what can we do...Well, it was time to get thinking! Maybe I could ask one of Ethan's friends to walk the dog a couple times, and than maybe we could head out of town! After a phone call and really putting myself out there with the neighbors I was able to find a 10yr old to help with Fern! Now the Magic! So Saturday morning when he least expects it we are headed to Legoland for the day! We haven't told the kids anything! I am so excited I can't wait to see the look on his face! I can't wait to celebrate his birthday!
Operation Geburstag: Make 9 in Germany as awesome as 8 was in Michigan! While I know we all will miss family and friends, it is so important that the kids know we can make things right here! That we can make things fun here, and that we can do this as a family!

  2. Sounds like a GREAT plan!!! (You know, most places in Germany are dog friendly - I'm sure you've noticed. Dogs go every where.) Have fun and can't wait to read all about the BIG surprise when you return!!
